Abe's Story

Abram Herman

I'm a born and raised Coloradan and small business owner selling specialized festival structures to residential, commercial, educational and institutional customers nationally and internationally, headquartered here in Grand Junction. My partner Jordyn is a Grand Junction native and a Registered Nurse at St. Mary's. She and I live downtown, and we love being close to all of the great restaurants and local businesses.

After graduating college and building my own successful small business, I came to Grand Junction for the same reasons that so many of us live here. It's our way of life. It's affordability. It's the sense of community and small-town character. It's the amazing outdoor spaces we get to play in. All of these things are what make Grand Junction so special, and I want to protect our way of life for the next generation. We've all seen what mismanaged growth has done on the Front Range—I want to make sure that doesn't happen here.

As a small business owner, I understand the need to support the local businesses that make our city great with community-based, common sense economic policy. We need to build a brighter future around local businesses with homegrown jobs and opportunity.

As an avid mountain biker, climber, skier, and outdoorsman, I want to make sure we protect the incredible outdoor spaces that surround Grand Junction, and preserve the room to breathe that we all enjoy here.

I've worked tirelessly to make our community better through volunteerism: running programs for disabled veterans through the VA so that they can recover through climbing, getting local youth outdoors for their mental health and personal growth through my board service with FOYAN, helping kids and adults with disabilities in community-based recreational programs, helping kids with autism learn to climb and develop their interpersonal skills, working with homeless youth at The House to move them forward in life, and organizing my local neighborhood group to create a greater sense of community in Grand Junction.

I'm also very actively engaged with city events, planning processes, community input sessions, and anything else I can do to keep Grand Junction a great place to live.

On City Council I will continue my service to our community, and make the decisions that will protect the things we love about Grand Junction, while also looking for opportunities to make our community an even better version of itself.

I want to make sure that 50 years from now this is still a place our kids and grandkids want to live.

Please feel free to contact me anytime with your questions and ideas—that's my personal email and personal phone number, so you can reach me directly. My purpose on City Council is to hear our community members' input, needs and concerns; I believe our leaders should be accessible and ready to listen.

I look forward to serving our community.
